| Description: |
The City of Edmond selected Counsilman-Hunsaker to provide a variety of aquatic services including a facility assessment of the 40-year-old pool for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. The results concluded it would be more economical to construct a new pool rather than upgrading the outdated facility. Counsilman-Hunsaker then developed a Feasibility Study to analyze the operational and economic impacts that would result from the creation of a new aquatic center
The City approved the construction of a new pool and commissioned Counsilman-Hunsaker, in association with Allen Brown Architects, to design the Pelican Bay Aquatic Center.
The pool is designed as one body of water with a variety of fitness and leisure attractions including:
• Six-lane, 25-yard fitness pool • One-meter diving board • Two 150-foot waterslides, one as open flume, and the other a closed flume • Zero-depth entry • Interactive water play features like automated sprays and pulley-activated spray pipes • Sprayground • Current channel • Vortex
In 2002, the Oklahoma Recreation & Parks Society awarded the Pelican Bay Aquatic Center’s design with their ‘Award of Excellence,’ and in 2004, the facility was featured in Recreational Management magazine.
