| Description: |
Counsilman-Hunsaker, in association with Allen Brown Architects and Moody Nolan, designed the new, resort-like outdoor aquatics facility to meet the student body’s fitness and leisure aquatic programming needs. The state-of-the-art facility embodies the school’s goals and objectives and has become a popular gathering place for students.
The pool is made up of one large body of water artistically carved into separate components with each seamlessly connecting to the next. Amenities include:
• Three fitness lap lanes adjoined to a split-level wading pool with stair entry • Vortex sits as the inner most ring spinning quietly with the sounds of waterfalls and trickling fountains located throughout the pool • Underwater bubble-bench seating that can hold up to 30 students makes up the next ring of the circle • Current channel, designed as the outermost ring • Zero-beach ADA ramp • Aquatic basketball space located in the upper pool section • Plenty of deck space
Athletic Business magazine featured the aquatics facility as an ‘Architectural Showcase’ in June 2005 and 2006. Also in 2006, won the Outstanding Sports Facilities award from National Intramural Sports Association (NIRSA) for outstanding design of a sports facility.
