| Description: |
The City of Allen and the Allen Independent School District came together to develop a new joint-venture: a facility capable of hosting high school aquatic athletics as well as community programming for aquatic recreation. The competitive pool is 25-yards x 25-meters with two 1-meter diving boards. There are bleachers that can accommodate a crowd of 650. This pool not only is available to aquatics athletic teams, but it is utilized on the community level for various aquatic activities such as swimming lessons and aqua aerobics sessions. The leisure pool area of the facility is perfect for younger guests. There is a 16ft. flume slide and a drifting current channel that empties into a vortex, which spins and sloshes swimmers around. A shallow water pool is home to an aquatic playhouse with spray ballard posts jetting water out in every which way. Kids can crawl through the tunnel and go for a ride down the pint-sized waterslide. Colorful tumble buckets pour gallons upon gallons of water onto heads of giggling children. Several rain fountains spray guests unexpectedly throughout the leisure pool and a whirlpool spa relaxes away the day. The facility also houses a fitness center complete with a 24ft. rock climbing wall and a variety of fitness rooms. This joint venture facility was well received by the citizens of Allen, who have made it a successful center year after year. The Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium was featured in Athletic Business Magazine in June 2003.
