| Description: |
Counsilman-Hunsaker, in association with Cannon Design, was selected by Boston University to design a natatorium that would meet the needs of the school’s growing aquatics program. The resulting design included three bodies of water: competition pool, leisure pool, and spa.
The competition pool was designed as a 25-yard, 10-x 16-lane pool, which is divided by a moveable bulkhead to also include a diving area. The bulkhead can be adjusted to create a 25-meter or 25-yard pool. The diving well was designed with a one-meter and three-meter springboard and can also be converted into lap lanes. The water has a depth that slopes from seven to 13.5 feet and a temperature of 80 degrees, each appropriate for water polo, synchronized swimming, diving, training, and competing.
The second pool is a 5,000 SF recreational leisure pool which features:
• Current channel • Water basketball • Underwater hydro benches • Three 20-yard fitness lap lanes • ADA accessible zero-depth entry ramp
The recreation pool is maintained at 86 degrees, suitable for therapy use. The natatorium also contains a 15-person hot water spa.
Athletic Business magazine awarded this state-of-the-art project with their 2006 Facility of Merit Award.
