| Description: |
Counsilman-Hunsaker in association with Scholer Corporation formed a joint venture to provide architectural and engineering services to design and construct a new natatorium for the Boilermakers aquatic programs. The $23 million project is a cooperative venture among Intercollegiate Athletics, the Department of Health, Kinesiology and Leisure Studies, and the Division of Recreational Sports.
The new aquatic center was built behind the recreational gymnasium on land that was currently occupied by an outdoor pool and diving well, three tennis courts, and two basketball courts. The new center replaced the 40-year-old indoor and outdoor pools at the recreational gymnasium and the 60-year-old pool at Lambert Fieldhouse.
The university aquatic center is home to the men's and women's swim teams and also will be open to users and guests of the recreational gym.
The state-of-the-art aquatic facility includes:
• 50-meter competition pool with eight lanes • Two movable bulkheads • Separate diving pool with diving tower with 1, 3, 5, 7½, and 10-meter diving • Bleacher seating • 12 person warm water whirlpool spa
