| Description: |
Counsilman-Hunsaker was extremely honored to be selected as the aquatics engineers, teamed with Richard Dattner Architects, to design a world-class venue to host the 1998 Goodwill Games.
The 80,000 sq. ft. multi-level swimming and diving complex, with full ADA accessibility, has 1,800 permanent seats and can accommodate an additional 1,500 temporary seats. The state-of-the-art pool includes:
• Stretch 50-meter with three movable bulkheads • Additional pool configurations to include 50-meter x 25-meter with ten lanes for competition and capacity of 20 cross-pool lanes for non-competition • 25-meter x 18-meter diving well, 17-feet deep with 10-meter tower • Various level diving platforms and available springboard • Whirlpool spa
Since its commissioning, the award-winning pool has hosted various other national competitions including NCAA swimming championships. The facility also hosts lap swimming and swim lessons and is a practice/event site for youth and masters swim teams for both residents and non-residents.
In 1999, the pool received a ‘Facility of Merit’ award for its outstanding design from Athletic Business magazine and was featured on the March 1999 cover of Architectural Record magazine.
